About The Position

Under the direction of a Radiologist, Facility Manager or Supervisor, performs radiographic procedures (general & EKGs) according to established protocols for various age groups. This role requires technical skill with some supervision, involving judgment and initiative in applying ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. The technologist assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Current and valid Florida State License (CRT).
Basic Life Support BLS through the American Heart Association (CPR).
Graduate of a 2-year radiologic technology program from an accredited school.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry.
Knowledge and skill in performing X-ray and EKG procedures and protocols.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary for x-ray testing, including body mechanics and patient movement.
Knowledge of radiology equipment, including safety hazards common to radiology.

Responsibilities

Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure to be performed and records all reasons for the exam, including signs and symptoms.
Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and gain cooperation.
Positions patients on the examining table and adjusts immobilization devices for optimal views.
Moves x-ray and EKG equipment into position and adjusts controls to set exposure factors.
Processes radiologic digital images and examines them for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability.
Verifies that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS, making necessary changes to billing codes/exam titles.
Presents prior studies along with current studies to the radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
Stocks/orders supplies, checks equipment for problems, performs equipment QC as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
