About The Position

The X-ray Technologist performs duties under the direction of the Radiologist, Technical Director, and Chief Technologist. May be required to cover or rotate to any facility or changing shift, must be available for OT if needed due to patient needs/demands. Will scan patient regardless which facility their appointment was scheduled at. May perform other job related duties as necessary for the efficient operation of SDMI.

Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Technologist in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or its equivalent and the State of Nevada.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the principles of modality and have specific skills to produce Radiologic images of high quality and have needed skills to teach others.
  • A.R.R.T. and State licensure/ registry are required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic principles of radiation protection and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in radiographic positioning.
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in formulating radiographic exposure factors including non-grid application.
  • Knowledge and skill in aseptic technique.
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in administration, side effects, and complications of contrast media.
  • Ability to access other Imaging Technologists skills and abilities.
  • Oral communication skills to give clear, concise instructions and information to the patient and visitor and communicate with people of various backgrounds and education levels.
  • Skill in organizing time and workload to accommodate changes in workload and assignments in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Patience, tact and courtesy to handle patients, visitors and doctors.
  • Skill to pay attention to details and accuracy in completing tasks.
  • Basic knowledge and skill in the care of IVs catheters, N.G. tubes, chest tubes and various “Ostomies.”
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in dealing with the various isolation conditions.
  • Communicate openly, directly, tactfully and effectively.
  • Appreciate and respect others’ needs, opinions and concerns.
  • Conduct self courteously and professionally in all interaction with physicians, patients, patients’ families, visitors, members of the public and co-workers.
  • Demonstrate sincere concern for the needs of all customers.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and compliance of patient rights including patient confidentiality.

  • Submit documentation of required current licensure and/or certification in a timely manner.

  • Identify hazardous materials in immediate work area and demonstrates knowledge of MSDS sheets.
  • Understand and utilize all functions of digital imaging.
  • Thorough knowledge of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and work flow processes to provide maximum efficiency.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and have no CMS disqualifying events.

Responsibilities

  • Scan patient regardless which facility their appointment was scheduled at.
  • Complete or direct the completion of an occurrence report within 24 hours of event/occurrence/risk.
  • Teach and guide future radiology students with their clinical training.
  • Prepare proper contrast media for the various radiographic procedures.
  • Report any malfunctions of radiographic equipment to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness in the Radiology Department.
  • Recognize and correct mistakes in positioning and technique.
  • Maintain appropriate supplies in radiographic rooms.
  • Maintain adequate records as directed.
  • Train and direct others in the proper use of technique, positioning, and other aspects of radiology.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to the department as directed by the Chief Technologist and/or Medical Director.
  • Know fire and evacuation plans for the Radiology Department including the location of the closest fire alarms and fire extinguishers.
  • Be aware of electrical safety.
  • Be aware of radiation safety and specific departmental hazards.
  • Be aware of the proper handling and disposal of hazardous/toxic substances.
  • Respond positively to changes in assignments and priorities.
  • Work as an effective team member/leader with co-workers and other personnel.
  • Communicate effectively when follow up is needed.
  • Identify hazardous material in immediate work area.
  • Know and follow all SDMI safety and evacuation guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Willingly participate in cross-training activities within the department for own professional growth in order to contribute to the overall function of SDMI.
  • Assume responsibility for updating knowledge of current SDMI department policies and procedures, protocol and practices.
  • Demonstrate punctuality by reporting to work on time/satisfactory attendance record that complies with SDMI attendance policy.
  • Take full responsibility for all functions within job description and assures that all functions are completed before leaving SDMI at the end of the shift.
  • Comply with all privacy and security standards as set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  • Make every effort to protect patient’s health information and confidentiality.
  • Abide by all aspects of Public Law 104-191.
  • Treat all information received in the course of employment with SDMI, which relates to the patients of the provider, as confidential and privileged information.
  • Not disclose information regarding SDMI’s patients to any person or entity, other than as necessary to perform the job, and as permitted under SDMI’s HIPAA policies.
  • Safeguard computer password and will not post it in a public place.
  • Other duties as assigned.
