About The Position

The WRRF Operator I position involves monitoring and performing daily operations of a wastewater treatment plant to ensure efficient operation and compliance with permitted limits. This role requires inspecting equipment, starting up and shutting down apparatus, calibrating meters, monitoring process data, collecting samples, conducting laboratory tests, coordinating solids handling, identifying and reporting safety issues, troubleshooting technical problems, performing preventive maintenance, and advising superiors of operational issues. The position also involves maintaining work records, responding to inquiries, serving on-call, and attending training to enhance job knowledge and skills. Management may assign additional duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year of experience working at a biological wastewater treatment facility.
  • Must possess a minimum of an ‘D’ Biological Wastewater Operator license.
  • Must obtain a “C” Biological Wastewater Operator license within one (1) year.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and performs all daily wastewater treatment plant operations.
  • Ensures WRRF is operating efficiently and in a manner that maintains compliance with all applicable permitted limits.
  • Inspects equipment and processes to determine efficiency of operations, maintenance requirements, and cleanliness.
  • Starts up, shuts down, regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, compressors, grinders, blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions.
  • Calibrates meters; monitors and adjusts chemical rates as necessary.
  • Monitors process data and enters data into computer system daily.
  • Collects samples and conducts routine laboratory tests, records results and calibrates laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinates solids handling procedures.
  • Identifies and reports/corrects safety issues.
  • Assists in troubleshooting technical and mechanical problems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and assists with the repair and modification of equipment as needed.
  • Advises superiors of unusual operating problems.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete work records.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints in areas of responsibility.
  • Serves on call as scheduled to ensure uninterrupted service for customers.
  • Attends conferences, meetings, training, seminars, etc., as necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
