About The Position

The University College Writing Centre (UCWC) in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto is seeking Writing Instructors for Unit 3. The primary responsibility of these instructors is to provide one-on-one and small group counseling to students on various aspects of university writing, including organization, reasoning, style, and language use. Instructors will work with students from diverse academic disciplines and may be involved in delivering group instruction on general writing skills or specific college program courses. Additionally, there may be opportunities to create or revise pedagogical materials related to writing. Some positions may also focus on providing instruction for English language learners.

Requirements

  • Completed graduate degree from a post-secondary institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant experience teaching writing one-on-one.
  • Teaching experience in university courses with a writing component.
  • Previous experience in a writing centre.
  • Training and experience in second-language instruction at the university level.
  • Experience studying or teaching science.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students individually and in small groups on university writing, focusing on organization, reasoning, style, and language use.
  • See students with writing assignments from a variety of disciplines.
  • Deliver group instruction on general writing skills or in the context of specific College program courses.
  • Create or revise writing-related pedagogical material.
  • Deliver instruction for English language learners (in some positions).
