About The Position

Under general supervision of the Library Director, this position provides instructional assistance to students and staff seeking to improve their writing. The role involves explaining concepts, answering questions, editing, proofreading, and discussing students’ writing, grammar, and methods of documentation. It also includes suggesting methods for improvement in writing across all areas of study, orienting new students to the Library & Learning Commons, and assisting students with word-processing tools.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of English grammar and experience in composition and other forms of writing with an understanding of college-level expectations in these areas.
  • Excellent patron service skills.
  • Familiarity with the use of office computers, photocopiers, printers, scanners, etc.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and complete assigned tasks.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Sensitivity and understanding of the diversity of students found in a community college.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional support to students requiring assistance in writing by using coaching techniques.
  • Explains concepts, answers questions, edits, proofreads, and discusses students’ writing, grammar, and methods of documentation.
  • Suggests methods of improvement in writing in all areas of study.
  • Orients new students to the Library & Learning Commons, including explaining procedures in writing and research.
  • Assists students in the use of word-processing tools in preparing written documents.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
