About The Position

Hendall Inc. is seeking a highly qualified Writer/Editor to research, write, and edit content for professional and lay audiences. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing accurate, engaging publications, brochures, fact sheets, website content, social media posts, public service announcements, client reports, and other materials. This position works closely with the Publications Manager and contributes to the editorial and production lifecycle of an established quarterly publication, as well as a range of related content and outreach products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5-7 years of experience translating research and technical content and concepts into understandable, compelling, and accessible content
  • Understanding of federal government communication requirements including plain language and Section 508 compliance
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Proven ability to adopt and apply client-specific style guides in the development of content
  • Team player with a willingness to support other efforts, as needed

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the full range of product development activities, including creative direction, conceptualizing product formats, developing concept clearance documentation, developing substantive outlines, and translating highly scientific information into clear and understandable content
  • Support the Publications Manager in executing editorial calendars, production schedules, and quality reviews for the quarterly publication
  • Propose innovative ideas for content, format, and audience engagement that strengthen the publication and related deliverables
  • Perform extensive research by interviewing subject matter experts, reviewing existing documentation, and conducting literature reviews
  • Prepare products for various stages of internal and external review, including field review and federal agency review
  • Review and incorporate feedback from internal, subject matter expert, and external reviewers
  • Review, revise, and edit content for readability, plain language, and accuracy
  • Copyedit content and ensure adherence to client style guides and editorial standards
  • Collaborate with designers, contributors, and subcontractors to ensure consistent voice and editorial quality across all materials
