About The Position

The Wound Care Nurse coordinates treatments to provide comprehensive wound assessments and plan-of-care including goals, implementation of treatment, evaluation, and outcomes for patients in the outpatient clinic and throughout the organization. Provides patient, family, and staff education regarding wound management, prevention of pressure ulcers, support surfaces, dressing selections, and other therapies. Is a resource person for physicians and clinical staff. Participates in performance improvement initiatives of the department and organization.

Requirements

  • Current Wyoming Registered Nurse (RN) License from the Wyoming State Board of Nursing
  • Current enhanced Nurse Licensure (eNLC)
  • 14 Days: Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within fourteen (14) calendar days of start date
  • Demonstrates effective leadership and professional skills according to Standards of Care
  • Ability to assess a patient’s condition, formulate plan of care, select appropriate interventions, evaluate patient’s response to plan of care and to explain to patient/family about this process
  • Ability to assess, evaluate, explain, teach, problem solve using critical thinking; and perform calculations
  • Demonstrates excellent professional/clinical skills and utilization of the Nursing process of direct and indirect patient care which includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to meet patient needs and improve patient outcomes
  • Ability to interact respectfully with diverse cultural and socio-economic populations
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of staging, grading, and describing wounds

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing

Responsibilities

  • Performs wound assessment, reassessment, and management of wound patients per policy.
  • Utilizes principles of current wound management theory when providing care to patients with acute and chronic wounds.
  • Participates in the education of clinical staff regarding skin protection, skin/wound care, prevention, treatments, and interventional options.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill to manage patients with draining wounds, wound prevention, wound care, ostomy care, and incontinence.
  • Revises plan-of-care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan for effectiveness.
  • Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Engages in patient and family teaching as appropriate.
  • Inputs charges as appropriate and enters documentation into computer system in a timely manner to ensure compliance.
  • Implements physician orders per plan-of-care and documents appropriately.
  • Consults other healthcare professionals as appropriate to provide interdisciplinary approach to meet patient needs.
  • Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, and manufacturers of clinical products.
  • Oversees staff (LPN & CNA) assigned for providing patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Program Director to assure the integration of the ANA’s Scope & Standards of Practice, assuring that these standards are identified as the measurement criteria for nursing practice on the unit.
