About The Position

This position assists the physician with wound care treatments, including bandages, cleaning, and applying medication. The role ensures the availability and procurement of treatment supplies and topical medications. Requirements

  • At least one year of clinical experience working as a Medical Assistant.
  • Training in basic medical terminology.
  • Must be a CMA III or able to pass the HealthTexas CMA III assessment.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Assistant Certification program and currently certified/registered.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Good Associate record, without a current (6 months or less) performance correction notice.
  • Excellent attendance.
  • Overall positive work relationships with co-workers, manager, and providers.
  • Detail-oriented and enjoys serving patients.
  • Works well with other healthcare providers.
  • Motivated, positive, and a self-starter.
  • Skilled in the use of a computer, fax machine/copier.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment and under stressful conditions where constructive criticism from others is encouraged.
  • Ability to work well with clinical staff and provide quality patient care, every patient, every time.
  • Able to effectively communicate with all others respectfully regardless of sexual, racial, ethnic, or economic status.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of EMR skills and able to prioritize tasks and organize workflow.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of the position and adhere to the HealthTexas Medical Group attendance policy.
  • Must be able to assist the patients in the event of an emergency.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a standard of excellence as it relates to customer service for patients and other customers.
  • Maintain timely flow of patients.
  • Maintain patient privacy according to HIPAA requirements.
  • Prepare patient for examination with physician, aiding patient in walking, standing, or sitting if needed.
  • Prepare equipment and treatment supplies to assist the physician in the treatment and examination.
  • Perform or assist with procedures including, but not limited to bandaging, cleaning, and applying medication.
  • Take and record height, weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration, and temperature.
  • Help prepare, organize, and sterilize rooms, tools, and equipment, and set up equipment.
  • Sterilize instruments and properly dispose of contaminated materials and prepare patient examination rooms, ensuring rooms stay clean and neat.
  • Update patient care plan under direction of physician.
  • Order, prepare, and inspect patient charts.
  • Document tests and examination results according to HealthTexas, HIPAA, and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Review patient tests and examination results with physician; document instructions according to HealthTexas, HIPAA, and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Input and monitor EMR records of patients during the exam process.
  • Follow all OSHA and HIPAA regulation universal precautions to protect self and patients.
  • Facilitate wound consultations.
  • Educate patient and/or family/caregiver on how to take care of wound.
  • Fulfill other duties as required.
  • Schedule new patients for wound care and ensure all necessary testing is completed prior to appointment.
  • Complete and process referrals as applicable.
  • Answer all telephone encounters from patients.
  • Complete paperwork for home health.
  • Assist clinic when not working for the Wound Care Clinic.
  • Utilize bilingual skills to translate or interpret for patients, family members, or colleagues if applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
