About The Position

Francis Parker School (Parker) is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and passionate educator to teach in its 6-12 World Language Department. This is a long-term substitute position from August 27 through November 20, 2026. The preferred candidate will have a depth of content knowledge to teach Upper School Spanish 3 Honors, along with the versatility to teach a range of learners and grade levels. Innovation, creativity, varied teaching methods, and technology integration are expected to bring the Spanish-speaking world to life for students. The role involves working collaboratively within the scope and sequence guided by ACTFL standards, assessing student growth, and embracing inclusion and diversity. Co-advising a cohort of Upper School students is also part of this role.

Requirements

  • A degree and preferably a teaching credential in Spanish.
  • The ability to passionately and effectively teach both Middle and Upper School Spanish.
  • The ability to serve as an advisor and mentor to Middle School or Upper School students.
  • A strong and sincere commitment to professional development both in pedagogy and content area.
  • Strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills when working with students, parents, faculty, and School leadership.
  • High standards and high expectations for students.
  • Commitment to being a positive and contributing member of the professional community.
  • A love of children, a passionate commitment to Spanish Language instruction, and a desire to work with all types of learners.
  • Extraordinary communication and presentation skills.
  • A proficiency in the use of technology.

Responsibilities

  • Daily classroom instruction, including planning and teaching a challenging course of study in a developmentally appropriate manner, with experience in differentiating instruction and interactive presentation.
  • Prioritizing and examining inclusive curricula, teaching practice and environment.
  • Ongoing communication and conferencing with parents.
  • Advising and mentoring a group of students in our life skills program.
  • Conferencing with students and colleagues as required.
  • Weekly collaboration with teaching partners to maintain and develop consistency within course offerings (e.g., horizontal alignment and consistent assessment practices between like courses).
  • Active participation in the curricular improvement of the department.
  • Willingness to initiate or participate in co-curricular activities such as Science Olympiad, Global Education Trips/Discovery Week, Camp, Math Team, or Coaching Athletics.
  • Co-advising a cohort of Upper School students.
