About The Position

The Workplace Safety and Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving the organization’s safety practices to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This role leads safety audits, investigates incidents, and collaborates with management to design and execute effective safety programs in line with OSHA regulations and industry best practices. The Workplace Safety and Compliance Manager will work directly with the President, COO, and Executive Director of Food Safety and Compliance to develop, enforce, and continuously refine all safety policies, risk assessments, procedures, and guidelines. The Workplace Safety and Compliance Manager will conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, provide employee training, and promote a culture of safety across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in workplace safety or a similar role in an industrial, manufacturing, or agricultural environment.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and safety best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to train and influence across all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, ASP) is a plus.
  • Forklift certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and comprehensive workplace safety audits; document and report findings to management along with actionable recommendations for continuous improvement that align with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular workplace safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard analyses.
  • Partner with leadership to establish and maintain safety policies and employee training programs that promote a culture of safety across all organizational levels.
  • Create and deliver safety training sessions for employees, supervisors, and leadership.
  • Work closely with the President, COO, and Executive Director of Food Safety and Compliance to design and enforce all workplace safety policies, risk assessments, procedures, and operational levels.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Operations, and Maintenance on ergonomic improvements, return to work programs, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Track compliance metrics and report safety performance trends to leadership.
  • Create, manage, and execute written SOPs for safety compliance.
  • Lead thorough investigations of workplace accidents to identify root causes and develop preventative measures to reduce recurrence.
  • Design, develop, and execute safety programs that align with both regulatory requirements and evolving industry standards.
  • Maintain safety records, including injury logs (OSHA 300), training logs, and inspection reports.
  • Monitor compliance with safety protocols and company policies across departments.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agency inspections.
  • Utilize the “train the trainer” model for building capacity with teams to include forklift training and production training.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential health and safety hazards; apply corrective actions promptly to mitigate risks.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through communication, recognition, and engagement initiatives.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in working with high-voltage electrical systems (480+).
  • Employ proactive hazard identification strategies to reduce incident rates and create a safer working environment.
  • Manage safety-related programs such as Lockout/Tagout, PPE, chemical safety (HASCOM), emergency response, and fire safety for risk mitigation.
  • Lead or actively participate in safety meetings, engaging staff at all levels to promote accountability and awareness.
  • Review and update safety policies and manuals regularly to reflect changes in regulations.
  • Collaborate with other facility locations to ensure proper safety training, consistent implementation of safety protocols, and completion of safety compliance audits.
  • Travel to other Pero locations up to 10%.
