About The Position

Appian is seeking a Workplace Events Intern to join their Travel and Workplace Events team. This 10-week, in-person internship offers a real-world experience in designing, coordinating, and executing internal events and travel initiatives. The intern will support global business strategies under the guidance of experienced event leads, contributing to seamless solutions that keep the workforce connected and productive. The role is based at Appian's headquarters in McLean, VA, emphasizing the company's culture of in-person collaboration. Interns are expected to be in the office five days a week to fully immerse themselves in the company culture, learn from peers and mentors, and contribute collaboratively.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Hospitality Management / Administration, Tourism and Travel Management, Event and Meeting Planning, or related specializations such as Sustainable Tourism or Food and Beverage Management.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with an obsessive attention to detail and high standards of excellence.
  • An aptitude for analyzing logistics and operational processes to help develop solutions that support them.
  • A solid foundation of, or passion for, hospitality, event management, or corporate operations.
  • The ability to leverage technology and data to construct and implement efficient workplace solutions.
  • Creativity for designing artifacts that communicate complex travel policies in a clear, engaging way.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience with event management software or corporate travel booking tools.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and optimize current travel and event processes to develop technical and non-technical solutions that improve the employee experience.
  • Use a design-thinking approach to prototype and model event flows, ensuring workplace gatherings are impactful and inclusive.
  • Support end-to-end logistics for summer events, including vendor sourcing, site selection, and collaborating on Food and Beverage management.
  • Assist in managing the corporate travel platform, integrating sustainable tourism practices and ethical travel standards.
  • Create communication artifacts such as newsletters, guides, and FAQs to increase adoption of new travel tools and event protocols.
