About The Position

The Working Lead ensures the day to day operations of his/her assigned area and shift, directing the work and providing assistance to team members to ensure the correct processes are being followed at all times. He/She leads operations as subject matter expert and participates in coaching, training, and developing employees. The Working Lead assists and guides his/her team; however, he/she does not manage the individual members of the team. The Working Lead, Machining primarily performs work alongside the members of his/her team. The Working Lead I is responsible for a low to medium complexity area with up to 3 functions and 13 employees.

Requirements

  • High School Or Equivalent (Required)
  • 3+ Years of Experience in a Manufacturing Environment (Required)
  • 1+ Years of Experience in Leadership (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Supervisor, Operations in the oversight of shop-floor day to day processes or operations.
  • Maintain work area, tools and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
  • Occasionally assigns work to ensure On-Time In Full completion of work. Monitors individual productivity, as directed by Supervisors. Reports outcomes to Supervisor.
  • Conducts daily team meetings at the start of the shift to discuss daily production schedule/goals. Ensures materials are available to complete scheduled work; maintain consumable supplies (e.g. Kanban)
  • Ensures production metrics are being tracked as required and earned hours are achieved.
  • Reports out at daily Gemba and lean daily management (LDM).
  • Assists Supervisor in developing and implementing procedures, and ensure they are being followed.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, worker performance, quality and delivery of product.
  • Keeps the Supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.
  • Daily and where needed, performs the work of the team members, ensuring coverage and continuous operation.
  • Coaches team members to be successful.
  • Assists or performs training of personnel as directed by the department supervisor.
  • Communicate the performance goals to the individuals in the department.
  • Communicate regularly to supervisor on performance, quality, schedules, operations and other issues as necessary.
  • Assist in eliminating safety hazards; promote safe work practices and environment; investigate accidents as necessary.
  • Completes various reports, audits, checklists and training forms as scheduled or requested and provides information to other personnel as necessary.
  • Visually inspects machined parts.
  • Ensures standard operating procedures (standard work) are available, up to date, and followed by team members
  • Regularly produces parts by editing programs, setting up, and operating a machine, such as; a computer numerical control (CNC) machine or other equipment, as applicable (Greater than 50% of the total work).
  • May participate in interviewing candidates for positions. Does not have hiring/termination authority.
  • Is a technical subject matter expert to employees.
  • Inspects equipment to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Performs basic maintenance on machines to ensure proper function. Identifies signs of malfunctions and escalate issues to appropriate departments.
  • Supports providing and documenting training to ensure team members have the required knowledge and skills prior to performing job duties independently.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, worker performance, quality and delivery of product.
  • Supports the development and implementation of procedures and ensures compliance. Additionally, supports the development of compliance procedures
  • Reinforces safety expectations. Ensures safety operating practices are demonstrated. Reports issues/concerns to Supervisor.
  • Support quality and compliance by adhering to all procedures, work instructions, and forms per the Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Provides and documents training on standard of work instructions, policies, and procedures in a timely manner to ensure team members have the required knowledge and skills prior to performing work independently.
