About The Position

This position is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and oversight related to all areas and levels of fire and rescue training provided through the constituent colleges of the NC Community College System in compliance with standards of the NC Fire and Rescue Commission and/or other applicable bodies, and within state and local policies of the NC Community College System. Key duties include planning, monitoring, and evaluating training needs and training delivery specific to this program area; maintaining and providing expertise and technical assistance in the program area; building collaborations with applicable state agencies, regulatory bodies, local colleges, local fire and rescue agencies, and qualified fire and rescue instructors for the purpose of maintaining the credibility and effectiveness of the NCCCS as the primary provider of fire and rescue training in North Carolina; and communicating information to stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner to support superior fire and rescue training in the state.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, industrial education, instructional design or discipline related to the assigned workforce training area from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in designing, providing, and/or coordinating industry-specific training in higher education, business or the public sector; or Associate's degree in any of those same disciplines from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in designing, providing, and/or coordinating industry-specific training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the role of the NC Community College System as it relates to public safety education and training, career development, and educational pathways.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of North Carolina's fire service and emergency management training and certification programs.
  • Documented experience working with fire service and emergency management employers to meet workforce training needs.
  • Documented experience working with one or more credentialing bodies to support effective program delivery, quality assurance, and student success.
  • Documented experience developing training materials and/or policy memos and related documents.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and strengthening strategic partnerships at the local, regional, and/or state levels.
  • Documented ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to speak effectively through public presentation to a variety of audiences.
  • Documented ability to work collaboratively and proactively with both internal team members and external partners.
  • Documented competence in the use of basic computer applications and technologies, including word processing, email, presentation programs, and virtual meeting platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Documentation of current or past certification as a State Qualified Level 2 Fire Instructor in North Carolina.
  • Documented experience teaching in or managing both Curriculum and Workforce Continuing Education fire service and emergency management and/or other emergency services disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the state-level Community College System Combined Course Library in the assigned discipline(s).
  • Reviewing and processing applications for new or revised courses and programs.
  • Assisting with policy development and training related to North Carolina Community College System policies and procedures.
  • Providing written and verbal assistance to colleges, state agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Acting as System Office liaison to related state-level boards, committees, and/or agencies.
  • Being a collaborative partner and productive member of assigned work teams.
  • On-site or remote assistance to individual colleges and stakeholders.
  • Regional and statewide meetings.
  • Webinars and conference calls.
  • Conference and training presentations.
  • Technical assistance emails, memos, and other documents.
  • Working proactively with internal teams and external partners to support program improvement and student success in the assigned area(s).
  • Supporting local community college staff in providing education and training that complies with applicable educational and industry standards and promotes student success.
