About The Position

La Raza Centro Legal is seeking a Workers' Rights Managing Attorney to manage its Workers' Rights Program. Founded in 1973, La Raza Centro Legal is a multicultural public interest law and social justice center dedicated to serving Latino, indigenous, immigrant, and low-income individuals in San Francisco and the Bay Area. The organization aims to foster a more just and inclusive society by empowering individuals to understand and exercise their legal rights, combat injustice, improve self-sufficiency, and advocate for themselves through legal services and community empowerment programs.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to social justice.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Program development experience.
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of immigrants in the media, community forums, and other venues.
  • Good public speaking skills.
  • Ability to engage in strategic planning regarding the direction of legal services work.
  • Admission to the California Bar.
  • J.D. and California bar license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal services to low-income employees.
  • Manage the Workers’ Rights Program and its staff at LRCL.
  • Provide legal advice.
  • Attend mandatory grant administrator meetings.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in community events.
  • Adjust employee grievances within the WRP program.
  • Exercise authority on behalf of the employer to hire, transfer, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, reward (including evaluations, overtime assignments, time off), assign, or discipline employees within the Workers' Rights program, or to recommend such actions to the Executive Director.
  • Manage an individual caseload.
  • Maintain regular clinic hours (1x/month).
  • Oversee recruitment and supervision of a legal assistant, interns, and pro bono attorneys (as needed).
  • Assist in meeting position goals and enhancing community resources.
  • Assist with fund development and grant renewals.
  • Ensure funding obligations, including contract obligations and reporting requirements, are met.
