This role involves reporting, managing, and resolving workers’ compensation claims for Middle-Market to Large Commercial clients. The consultant will communicate regularly with adjusters, clients, defense attorneys, and outside consultants, gather claim facts, review coverage, and analyze estimates to resolve disputes favorably for clients. Accurate claim evaluation for reserve or settlement purposes and preparing stewardship reports are key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in Insurance, P&C
  • 3 years in brokerage preferred, not required
  • 3 years or more of claims management experience
  • Active P&C license, or ability to successfully complete training and pass licensing test within 12 months of hire
  • High-school diploma, or equivalent (College degree, a plus)
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • 3 years or more Customer-oriented service experience
  • Exercise good judgment/decision making ability
  • Possess good problem-solving skills
  • Work independently, as well as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Manage new and ongoing claims for assigned Commercial Middle Market to Large clients generating $10,000 or more in total commercial revenue.
  • Provide recommendations or guidance on claims for clients generating commercial annual revenue below $10,000 per year to the Client Advisor or Account Manager.
  • Provide recommendations or guidance on claims for clients generating commercial annual revenue below $10,000 per year to other Centers of Influence.
  • Back-up other Claim Consultants as needed, including those managing Workers’ Compensation claims for Middle Market and Large Commercial clients.
  • Strategically manage existing open WC claims, documenting all activity in Epic, maintaining ongoing contact with the insurance adjuster, client contact(s), defense attorney, and others involved in the claim.
  • Assist the Account Executive and Client Advisor to resolve coverage questions, identify and report frequency or severity trends, and develop and facilitate risk management techniques to help the client decrease claim numbers and severity.
  • Operate in a courteous and professional manner with all parties to resolve claim-related issues and coverage concerns.
  • Advise the Account Executive and Client Advisor on unusual, complex, or high-value new losses or coverage disputes and provide updates/reports as needed.
  • Conduct regular and timely follow-up contact with adjusters, client contacts, and others defending the claim.
  • Regularly review (at least monthly) and monitor all open WC claims on assigned clients, maintaining a record of status and related data until the claim is resolved.
  • Enter and maintain data in Epic (Agency Management Software), including email, phone contacts, and client stewardship reports.
  • Visit clients as requested or agreed upon with the client, Client Advisor, Account Executive, and/or Team Leader.
  • Contact the insured, carrier, claimant, attorney, doctor/medical facility as needed by letter, memo, phone, fax, or e-mail.
  • Receive, distribute, or attach in Epic all P&C claims-related mail and inform the Client Advisor and/or Account Executive when necessary.
  • Review account policy information to confirm coverage in the event of notice of a new claim and coordinate with the Client Advisor and/or Account Executive regarding notification method to the client if there are coverage concerns.
  • Work with carriers and clients to ensure all claims are resolved promptly and fairly.
  • Develop and foster good working relationships with adjusters and clients by responding within 1 business day to all email or phone inquiries, anticipating needs, and expressing gratitude.
  • Perform P&C claim reviews and prepare stewardship reports for assigned clients on an agreed-upon schedule, maintaining a copy in Epic.
  • Provide Stewardship reports on assigned clients as requested by the Marketing team, Client Advisor, or Account Executive for renewal marketing or presentations.
  • Provide status reports on open WC claims for assigned clients as requested by the Client Advisor, Account Executive, or client.
  • Support the mission and vision of the Agency and the Claim and Risk Management Team.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and workflow processes.
  • Complete Continuing Education requirements to maintain P&C license and other designations.
  • Perform other activities or tasks as requested.
