About The Position

PNNL’s Human Resources organization is comprised of over 100 plus committed professionals working to advance the interests of the lab and support scientific discovery and excellence. This role is tasked with the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of Worker Safety & Health training program requirements as assigned. Common topics in this portfolio include lock-out tag-out, confined space entry, fall protection, forklift and aerial lift operations, rigging and lifting, respirator usage, and adult First Aid/AED/CPR. The training and qualification programs provided by this role enable staff to mitigate hazards during facility maintenance & operations and safely conduct research in alignment with PNNL’s mission.

Requirements

  • BS/BA and 7 years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA or higher and 5 years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced Worker Safety & Health Instructor.
  • Knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 OSHA Standards.
  • Experience as a member of the craft workforce – particularly as an electrician, a millwright, a pipefitter, a machinist, or a stationary operating engineer.
  • Experience as an instructional designer is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage proven instructional design techniques to analyze organizational needs and recommend appropriate learning solutions. Examples include conducting needs analyses for new equipment, regulatory updates, and addressing performance gaps.
  • Collaborate independently with Worker Safety & Health subject matter experts to design and develop effective training content that aligns with modern learning techniques, regulatory requirements, and PNNL-specific standards and expectations.
  • Deliver classroom, hands-on, and field-based instruction for assigned topics. This typically represents 50% of the role and includes planning and preparing for training sessions, delivering content in accordance with approved materials and safety standards, evaluating learning outcomes, and processing course completion data.
  • Evaluate training program effectiveness using data-driven techniques such as feedback collection, field observations, performance metrics, and supporting assessments or audits as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with department staff, including a peer instructor/designer, to coordinate day-to-day operations of the training program, maintain program health, and support continuous improvement.
