About The Position

The Workers' Compensation Paralegal position at Houser Injury Law exists to manage and advance the firm's dedicated workers' compensation practice. Following the retirement of the previous paralegal, this role is essential to ensure specialized, focused attention on workers' compensation cases, contributing significantly to the firm's mission to provide expert legal representation and maintain high client service standards. This role supports the firm's legal strategy by independently managing cases, improving departmental organization, and enhancing client satisfaction through innovation and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Several years of dedicated experience in workers' compensation, with the ability to contribute immediately without extensive training.
  • Ability to own and manage the firm's workers' compensation department, proactively managing cases and following through consistently.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and other document management systems; willingness to learn new software quickly.
  • Demonstrated skills in written communication, prompt responsiveness, and documentation of conversations to keep clients informed.
  • Strong ability to maintain accurate file documentation, organized case records, and clear communication history to ensure efficient case progress.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in North Carolina workers' compensation law.
  • Experience with case management software.
  • Experience in personal injury law beyond workers' compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Independently oversee the entire caseload of approximately 20 workers' compensation files, ensuring progression toward resolution with minimal supervision.
  • Act as the primary operational partner to the Workers' Compensation Attorney, Cameron Simmons, ensuring files are organized and ready for review.
  • Embrace written communication tools like email and case management software to keep clients informed, reducing unnecessary phone calls.
  • Maintain responsiveness and build trust with clients, requesting feedback and Google reviews from satisfied clients.
  • Embrace and utilize technology such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and case management software for efficient document management and communication.
  • Identify and implement next steps independently, maintaining momentum on cases and anticipating problems before they arise.
  • If the role develops into a full-time position, assist with additional case support responsibilities such as medical records requests, lien management, and related administrative support.
