About The Position

Performs entry-level maintenance and repair within the H2GO district. Work involves installing meters and repairing water taps, emergency, and routine system repairs, fire hydrant flushing and maintenance and valve exercise. This position is designated as essential during emergency or disaster situations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Work Order Superintendent.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalent diploma (GED), and minimal experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain the appropriate State water and/or sewer certifications, as well as industry standard training and certifications, including, but not limited to, NC DOT approved flagger safety training, confined space, CPR and First Aid, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand operating manuals and use basic math skills.
  • This position requires a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
  • Physical and Cognitive Demands Requirements
  • This job operates in the field. The field environment consists of all types of terrain and weather conditions. May be exposed to strenuous and often time hazardous working conditions, including but not limited to, harsh and dangerous chemicals, direct sun light, moving equipment, high traffic areas, pressurized water lines, heights, confined spaces, trenches, darkness, electrical and hydraulic energy, etc. Protective equipment and clothing may be required. This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, hearing, standing, walking and reaching; work has standard vision requirements; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; Work requires the ability to maintain a high level of cognitive function and concentration to perform detailed analysis and execute critical thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Meter installations and rereads.
  • Customer service
  • Assist in performing preventative maintenance on all equipment and facilities as appropriate.
  • Conducting routine and leak detection inspections.
  • Conducts and assists with water line construction and repair and install and repair water taps, landscaping areas after pipe installation or repair work, repair broken meter boxes, replace faulty meters.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed and participates in monthly safety meetings, attending all required safety training.
  • Review and familiarize themselves with all adopted Administrative and Safety Policies of the district.
  • Report immediately to the Field Supervisor or Operations Manager any event, condition, or circumstance that could injure another employee, damage District equipment, reduce customer confidence, impair service to a District customer, etc.
  • Ensure that all reports are accurate, legible, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Assists other departments in carrying out their function when help is needed.
  • This position is responsible for creating a culture of belonging and inclusion.
  • Work in partnership with all H2GO departments to achieve organizational goals.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
