About The Position

This position provides supervision to adult offenders performing community service as ordered by the court as well as the Parole & Probation department. It trains offenders in forestry and landscaping procedures; maintains order and discipline within work group and completes required recordkeeping. The supervisor collaborates with public and non-profit agencies to develop and manage community work projects.

Requirements

  • Two years experience in forestry, landscaping, wildland fire fighter (FF1) or carpentry which includes supervision of personnel.
  • Knowledge of human behavior.
  • Knowledge of assigning work and leading a work crew.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge and ability to participate in program planning, evaluating and implementing programs to meet specific objectives.
  • Knowledge of forestry, landscaping, carpentry and power tool equipment.
  • Skill in writing clear and concise correspondence, records, reports and statistical data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to give practical advice and guidance to adult offenders.
  • Ability to lead, direct, maintain order, discipline and safety of adult offender work crew.
  • Ability to estimate time and materials and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population of people.
  • Ability to plan/coordinate work projects with community agencies.
  • Ability to apply a practical knowledge of program management to day-to-day activities.
  • Ability to safely operate power equipment.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Ability to remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations.
  • Ability to make decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain records, reports and statistical data.
  • Ability to courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, courts, law enforcement agencies, public and non-profit agencies, the community, clients, families and the public.
  • Possess valid Oregon drivers license at time of appointment.
  • Ability to pull a trailer.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily supervision to up to 15 adult offenders; assign work tasks; maintain order and discipline within work group.
  • Prepare work crew truck, tools and supplies for the day.
  • Participate in work as needed.
  • Clean truck at end of work day.
  • Provide job-skill-training to adult offenders in forestry procedures, landscaping, etc.
  • Prepare daily and monthly reports.
