About The Position

This individual is responsible for creating truss designs and drawings prepared directly from information submitted on a company order form, client’s customer selection sheet, repeated from previous jobs, or from information developed by a design manager. The role involves collaborating with outside sales personnel and customers to ensure the creation of accurate, safe, and quality structures. The technician must assure stability, deflection, and load-carrying capabilities that meet or exceed relevant codes. They will follow quality control procedures for completeness, accuracy, and code compliance in implementing design standards. The position also requires conferring with clients, technical staff, and other Design Services personnel to make necessary design modifications, and developing and completing design details from original concept drawings, preparing layouts, and writing technical descriptions.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Mitek, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD

Responsibilities

  • Create truss designs and drawings from company order forms, client selection sheets, previous job information, or design manager input.
  • Collaborate with outside sales personnel and customers to complete accurate, safe, and quality structures.
  • Ensure stability, deflection, and load-carrying capabilities meet or exceed applicable codes.
  • Follow quality control procedures for completeness, accuracy, and code compliance.
  • Confers with client, technical staff, and other Design Services personnel, and prepares design modifications as required.
  • Develop and complete design details from original concept drawings and prepare layouts.
  • Draws rough sketches or arranges for finished drawings or photographs to illustrate specified materials or assembly sequence.
  • Writes technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties.
  • Review design(s) for most efficient and profitable use of inventory, equipment, and labor as time permits.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
