About The Position

We are seeking a Wood Products Production Associate to join our team in Farmington, New York. This is a hands-on, versatile position that supports the movement, preparation, manufacturing, finishing, and handling of reclaimed and sustainable wood products. Depending on production needs, you may work throughout our lumber yard, storage areas, mill, production, finishing, and shipping areas. One day may involve organizing reclaimed lumber; another may involve preparing material for production, operating equipment, assisting with finishing, packaging completed products, or helping prepare orders for shipment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys physical, hands-on work, takes pride in craftsmanship, and wants to learn and grow within a unique manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in manufacturing, woodworking, construction, warehousing, lumber handling, or a similar hands-on environment.
  • Familiarity with woodworking tools, manufacturing equipment, or production processes.
  • Experience working with lumber, wood products, or other building materials.
  • Forklift or other powered industrial equipment experience.
  • Experience with the finishing, coating, or preparation of wood products.
  • Experience with shipping, receiving, inventory, or material handling.

Responsibilities

  • Help maintain an organized and efficient lumber yard and material storage areas.
  • Remove nails, screws, staples, and other fasteners from reclaimed lumber using appropriate hand tools and equipment.
  • Inspect and prepare reclaimed lumber for processing, identifying embedded metal, damaged areas, or other hazards that could affect production or equipment.
  • Safely collect and dispose of removed fasteners and maintain a clean, organized de-nailing work area.
  • Sort and stage lumber according to species, dimensions, grade, product, project, or production requirements.
  • Safely move materials between the lumber yard, storage, production, finishing, and shipping areas.
  • Load and unload trucks and assist with shipping and receiving activities.
  • Handle reclaimed lumber carefully to protect its character, quality, and value while minimizing damage and waste.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other material-handling equipment as trained and authorized.
  • Assist in the preparation and manufacturing of wood flooring, paneling, siding, and other custom products.
  • Work at various production stations based on business and production needs.
  • Operate manufacturing equipment, machinery, hand tools, and other production equipment after appropriate training.
  • Prepare, move, inspect, and organize materials as they progress through the manufacturing process.
  • Follow production instructions and established processes to support quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain attention to detail when measuring, preparing, sorting, and processing materials.
  • Assist skilled craftspeople and production team members with a variety of manufacturing tasks.
  • Support the finishing department in the processing and manufacturing of pre-finished wood products.
  • Assist with the preparation of flooring, siding, paneling, and other wood products for finishing.
  • Support finishing activities, including material preparation, handling, color matching, and application processes, as trained and assigned.
  • Carefully handle finished products to maintain quality and appearance.
  • Inspect products for obvious defects, damage, or quality concerns and communicate issues to the appropriate team member.
  • Assist with packaging, staging, and preparing completed products for shipment or customer pickup.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout the lumber yard, shop, storage, and production areas.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Help maintain safe and efficient material flow throughout the facility.
  • Take pride in producing and handling products that meet Pioneer Millworks' quality standards.
  • Identify and communicate safety hazards, damaged materials, equipment concerns, or quality issues.
  • Participate in general housekeeping, cleanup, and organization of shop, production, warehouse, and lumber storage areas.
