About The Position

The WMS Digital Software Engineer plays a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering modern software solutions that support McKesson's Warehouse Management Systems and Distribution Center operations. This position focuses on digital application development, APIs, integration services, event-driven architecture, and contemporary programming technologies. The engineer will connect modern solutions with McKesson's IBM i (AS400) environment and must demonstrate the aptitude and willingness to learn RPGLE and legacy platform concepts. The role translates business and technical requirements into scalable solutions, applies automation and CI/CD practices, and collaborates across technical teams, business partners, and vendors to improve warehouse technology reliability and interoperability.

Requirements

  • Hands-on software development experience using one or more modern programming languages or platforms, such as Java, Python, Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, or PHP.
  • Experience designing, developing, or consuming REST APIs and implementing service-to-service integrations.
  • Experience with SQL, relational databases, software integration patterns, and modular or microservices-based architecture principles.
  • Knowledge of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Agile delivery methodologies, DevOps practices, and collaborative version-control workflows.
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, build and deployment automation, release management, and application monitoring.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness and aptitude to learn RPGLE, CLLE, and the IBM i (AS400) legacy environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically, 4+ years of relevant professional experience in software development, including exposure to enterprise-scale systems.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments and applying disciplined software development practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to IBM i (AS400), RPGLE, CLLE, ILE concepts, or legacy application modernization.
  • Experience with Kafka or other message-based and event-driven systems.
  • Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
  • Experience building microservices, distributed applications, or cloud-native solutions.
  • Experience integrating modern digital applications with enterprise or legacy platforms.
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management and Order-to-Cash processes.
  • Experience in distribution, logistics, supply chain, warehouse operations, or healthcare distribution environments.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, test, debug, implement, and manage solutions for Warehouse Management Systems supporting McKesson Distribution Centers.
  • Participate in implementation, development, enhancement, and modification of software source code and scripts while staying current with new technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Analyze requirements; create and automate tests; and verify and validate that system and software solutions meet specified business and technical requirements.
  • Monitor application performance, identify errors, perform root cause analysis, and implement appropriate remediation.
  • Integrate solutions across applications and platforms while ensuring interoperability, reliability, and adherence to design principles.
  • Liaise with vendors and internal partners to resolve functionality or interoperability issues affecting new and existing applications.
  • Use DevOps and Agile processes to deliver functionality quickly and effectively while iterating through continued development.
  • Own development activities from technical planning through deployment, and participate in technical design reviews and code reviews.
  • Apply automation, CI/CD practices, version control, testing, and disciplined release management to improve quality and delivery reliability.
  • Share best practices, provide technical guidance, and mentor or teach other team members as appropriate.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and strategic planning for technologies used across McKesson's Distribution Centers.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation, development standards, and operational support materials.
