About The Position

The Wireless Services Field Technician installs wireless telecommunications equipment and supporting fiber optic lines. Performs maintenance on existing small cells and macro cell site equipment and fiber optic lines.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the US without employer sponsorship
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
  • Three (3) or more years of experience with fiber optics installation and telecommunications equipment installation
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Inside Plant
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Must have understanding of the hazards and precautions of the trade
  • Basic knowledge of installation of telecommunication services
  • Must be able to travel to work sites 75-80% of the time

  • The Inside Plant Technician performs work involving installation of inside plant equipment in wireless carrier locations; therefore, the candidate must be able to interface with customer engineer on material and configuration questions and attend MOP meetings and job walk through if required
  • The candidate must also be able to assure quality of installation is accurate and complete

  • Have or be able to complete job related certifications including, but not limited to, first aid, safety, CPR, and OSHA 10

Responsibilities

  • Operate, analyze and document fiber and small cell/macro network status via OTDR and RF analyzer equipment
  • Implement and maintain good housekeeping practices
  • Train new team members and ensure that all team members are up to date on knowledge of existing and new technologies
  • Perform the maintenance of existing cables, including evaluation tests and repairing old faulty cables
  • Perform rod and rope installs to confirm fiber path
  • Communicate with Project Manager and Team Leader on workload status to meet designated goals
  • Close a project by completing daily production sheets, verifying proper levels after activation and optimization of equipment and troubleshoot as necessary
  • Use fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including, power meter and OTDR and train other team members in proper use
  • Read, understand and revise fiber transport documentation and maps as required
  • Analyze system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by software, hardware, or other factors.
  • Install small cell hardware and equipment for both aerial and underground locations
  • Read a compass and determine azimuths
  • Install and termination of coaxial cables
  • Install required power and grounding
  • Test RF cables with the use and understanding of RF test equipment such as PIM unit, Sweep meter and Light meter
  • Must work in a team environment that requires regular communication with other employees, vendors, and clients
  • Work normal business hours Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with ability to work outside regular business hours as the installation or maintenance schedule requires
  • Perform all activities in a manner that ensures the safety of self, team, clients and the public
  • Labeling and designation of equipment
  • Connect all signal, bus and power cable to include butt, strip, fan, form, wire wrap, and/or crimp
  • Properly run, dress, form, secure and sew all cabling
  • Perform continuity test with Multi Meter or CAT 5 tester
  • Adhere to circuit pack handling and electrostatic discharge procedures
  • Understand and use established safety requirements/procedures for equipment, ESD, power, & radiation
  • Competently and safely use basic hand tools
  • Competently and safely use electric tools (Telecommunication Industry Standards)
  • Understand and interpret OEM and Customer installation requirements including Drawings & QC Standards
  • Install frames, cabinets, and misc. equipment including batteries and BBUs
  • Install cable ladder, radio cabinets & components, transmission equipment
  • Terminate DC power, Ethernet and fiber jumpers
  • Install cables, power, inter cabinet, alarm punch down, alarm cables bulkhead antenna Connections
  • Prepare doc redline, site clean-up, site acceptance, doc delivery COP
  • Other duties as assigned
