About The Position

Apple’s Wireless System and Compliance Engineering team is seeking a Systems Engineer to drive connectivity performance for WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, and UWB technologies across Apple wireless products. The role combines wireless technology evaluation and product integration, using system expertise to define, characterize, and optimize connectivity performance. The engineer translates carrier, regulatory, and industry requirements into system specifications and identifies and drives hardware and software optimizations in collaboration with cross-functional teams. The position involves applying wireless system design and characterization expertise to complex performance challenges; evaluating system-level link budgets and their effects on feature performance through simulation, emulation, and measurement; and developing testbeds and controlled environments to characterize KPIs. The engineer defines and executes validation plans, finds ways to close performance gaps, supports root-cause analysis and design improvements, represents product goals in standardization venues, and mentors engineers on test plans, custom testing solutions, and platform-level fixes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Industry experience developing or characterizing RF/antenna systems for wireless technologies.
  • Experience commercializing wireless products.
  • Solid understanding of wireless system concepts and performance evaluation in at least one of: 802.11ax, 802.11ac, Wi-Fi 6E, GNSS, UWB, or Bluetooth.
  • Solid understanding of PHY-layer and MAC/application-layer protocols.
  • Solid understanding of end-to-end link budgets and wireless propagation.
  • Hands-on modeling experience with at least one simulation tool, such as MATLAB, HFSS, CST, ANSOFT, or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Working experience with RF characterization, antenna design and testing, anechoic chambers, and RF test equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with throughput measurement tools such as ixChariot, iPerf, Octoscope, or similar.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB for system-level modeling and simulation.
  • Track record of driving hardware/software design improvements through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with industry conformance requirements for WLAN, Bluetooth, and GNSS technologies.
  • Familiarity with chipset and platform architecture for WLAN, Bluetooth, GNSS, and UWB connectivity technologies.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and workflows, such as LLMs, AI coding assistants, and automation platforms, to improve productivity and engineering efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Apply wireless system design and characterization expertise to solve product performance challenges.
  • Drive system-level link-budget understanding and assess its impact on feature performance using simulation, emulation, and measurement.
  • Architect and maintain testbeds and controlled environments to identify and characterize relevant KPIs and improve wireless performance.
  • Define and execute validation plans, identify hardware and software opportunities to close performance gaps, and drive adoption of improvements.
  • Collaborate with RF hardware, antenna, product design, and electrical engineering teams on root-cause analysis and design improvements to champion product quality.
  • Represent Apple product goals in standardization venues.
  • Mentor engineers in defining test plans, custom testing solutions, and platform-level fixes.
