We’re looking for a Wireless Network Engineer to design, implement, and support a large-scale campus wireless environment. In this role, you’ll conduct wireless surveys, optimize access point placement, and collaborate on new construction and infrastructure upgrades.You’ll tackle complex networking challenges, support major campus events, and serve as a high level technical resource for IT and network teams. This position is primarily on site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: IPv4, IPv6, routing, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, etc.
  • Expertise with 802.11 standards, RF site surveys, WLAN design, and security protocols.
  • Experience with HPE Aruba Access Points, Controllers, AirWave, UXI Sensors, and Central preferred.
  • Attention to detail and strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience scripting in Python or similar language.
  • Hands-on experience with Ekahau or NetAlly.
  • Experience managing ClearPass.
  • Experience with UXI Sensors and Central.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform wireless surveys to identify signal problems.
  • Design wireless access point layout for optimal coverage.
  • Work with project managers to design placement for new APs in areas undergoing construction.
  • Plan and execute upgrades of wireless equipment.
  • Configures access points in AirWave and Wireless Controllers.
  • Provide support for large campus-wide events, such as Commencement and Penn Relays.
  • Resolve complex networking problems involving wireless infrastructure.
  • Use a variety of tools to identify and analyze networking problems.
  • Function as high-level support for networking questions from network specialists and IT support specialists.
  • Track and evaluate new networking technologies and products.
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
