The Wireless Network Engineer role involves visualizing and creating future network capabilities by engineering, integrating, and evaluating advanced wireless network technologies across various military mission environments. This role requires anticipating technical hurdles and turning early concepts into functional prototypes and mission-ready solutions. The engineer will leverage expertise in operational and tactical radio and network systems, modern software architectures, and a deep understanding of how applications, transports, waveforms, and mission services operate on both disconnected, degraded, intermittent, and limited (D-DIL) networks and enterprise, resilient, high-performance networks. The position supports concept development, prototype design, and solutions ideation for next-generation network capabilities. Responsibilities include overseeing research, design, planning, integration, and evaluation of advanced wireless and high-speed transport technologies, translating customer needs into actionable architectures and prototype implementations. The engineer will conduct assessments of customer requirements, perform network modeling and simulation, evaluate and optimize performance, and provide technical consulting. The work will influence the Department of War's adoption of future networking technologies, from concepts to operational systems. This includes refining technical roadmaps, delivering solution briefs, collaborating with stakeholders, and representing capabilities at demonstrations. A key aspect of the role is mentoring emerging engineers.
