About The Position

The Village of Buffalo Grove is seeking applicants for multiple Winter Seasonal Maintenance Workers in the Department of Public Works. This role involves performing a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks related to public works maintenance, with a strong emphasis on winter snow and ice control. The department is APWA accredited and utilizes technology to streamline service delivery. Responsibilities include snow plowing/shoveling, painting, basic building maintenance/cleaning, street maintenance, tree removal/trimming, utility excavation and repair, and minor vehicle/equipment maintenance. The position requires operating various trucks and construction equipment, working in all weather conditions, and using power and hand tools. Candidates must be available for work outside regular hours, including holidays and weekends, often with little notice. Proficiency in using mobile devices for work tracking is necessary, with specific software training provided.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or an ability to demonstrate relevant training, experience or work ethic.
  • Some experience in work related to the area of assignment.
  • Possession of a valid state-issued driver’s license; Class "D" Illinois Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology for tracking work accomplished, through mobile devices such as iPads and other tablet devices.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools.
  • Ability to report to work within one hour of contact.
  • Must be available to work outside of the regular work schedule, including holidays and weekends, often with little or no advance notice.
  • Must be available to work in all types of weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Public Works field (or similar).
  • Possess a valid CDL driver’s license (class A or B).

Responsibilities

  • Perform frontline winter snow and ice control activities.
  • Perform underground utility repairs.
  • Operate dump, flat-bed, or other trucks in transporting personnel, materials, and supplies.
  • Operate construction-types of equipment.
  • Operate trucks equipped with snowplows and salt spreaders for use in snow and ice control.
  • Perform basic building maintenance and cleaning.
  • Perform street maintenance (concrete and asphalt).
  • Perform tree removal and trimming.
  • Perform utility excavation and repair.
  • Perform minor vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist other sections as assigned.
  • Track work accomplished through mobile devices such as iPads and other tablet devices.
