Requirements

  • Two years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment (for Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic)
  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade (for Automotive Mechanic)
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship (for Automotive Mechanic)
  • Possess any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities (for Automotive Mechanic)
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period (for Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic)
  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License and any endorsements necessary to operate specific vehicles or equipment (for Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic)
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent (for certain Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic positions)
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment (for certain Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic positions)
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment (for certain Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic positions)
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements (for Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic)
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations (for Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic)
  • Hold a current and valid Pennsylvania driver's license of the class appropriate to the vehicle operated and supplemented by the endorsements required by law for operation of specific equipment (for certain Automotive Mechanic positions)
  • Be a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic for the class of vehicle used in the agency (for certain Automotive Mechanic positions)
  • Obtain a CFC-12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate, a 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate, or a Compressed Natural Gas Certificate (for certain Automotive Mechanic positions)
  • Able to perform essential job functions
