The Wine Steward is responsible for issuing, opening, and serving wine and champagne bottles, answering guest questions about wine origin, vintage, and style, and maintaining the wine list and MICROS system. This role involves pairing and suggesting wines to complement menu items, attending wine tastings, developing vendor relationships, requesting new wines and products, creating and updating wine lists, and designing and implementing wine promotions. The Wine Steward also monitors and replenishes wine cellar inventory, equipment, and glassware, trains server and bartender staff, conducts vintage and BIN number checks, holds staff wine tastings, and secures liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas. Additionally, the role requires adherence to all state and local laws for serving alcohol responsibly, maintaining an accurate spill sheet, and following all company and safety/security policies and procedures. This includes reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions, completing safety training, ensuring a clean and professional appearance, maintaining confidentiality, protecting company assets, and welcoming guests according to company standards. The Wine Steward must anticipate and address guest needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank guests with appreciation. Communication should be clear and professional, both in person and over the phone. The role requires developing positive working relationships, supporting team goals, and ensuring quality expectations are met. Physical requirements include standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods, moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing up to 50 pounds, manipulating objects with fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, moving through narrow or elevated spaces, and moving over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces, as well as up and down stairs or ramps. Reaching overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping, is also necessary. Other reasonable duties may be requested by supervisors.
