The Wine Steward is responsible for issuing, opening, and serving wine and champagne bottles. This role involves answering guest questions about wine origin, vintage, and style, as well as updating the wine list and MICROS system. The Wine Steward will pair and suggest wines to complement menu items, attend wine tastings, develop vendor relationships, and request new wines and products. Additionally, they will create and update wine lists, design and implement wine promotions, and monitor and replenish inventory of the wine cellar, equipment, and glassware. This position also includes training and educating server and bartender staff, conducting vintage and BIN number checks, and holding staff wine tastings. The Wine Steward must secure liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas, and adhere to all state and local laws for serving alcohol responsibly. They will maintain an accurate spill sheet, follow all company and safety/security policies, report accidents and unsafe conditions, and complete safety training. Maintaining a clean and professional appearance, ensuring confidentiality, and protecting company assets are also key. The role requires welcoming and acknowledging guests according to company standards, anticipating and addressing guest needs, assisting individuals with disabilities, and thanking guests with appreciation. Communication should be clear and professional, with appropriate telephone etiquette. Developing positive working relationships, supporting team goals, and ensuring adherence to quality standards are essential. The Wine Steward must be able to read and visually verify information, stand, sit, or walk for extended periods, and move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination are necessary for manipulating objects. The role may involve moving through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces, and over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces, as well as up and down stairs or service ramps. Reaching overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping, is required. Other reasonable duties may be requested by supervisors.
