About The Position

Bristol Farms is seeking a passionate and experienced Wine Manager to lead their Wine and Spirits department. This management position requires confidence, commitment, and motivation to drive success for both the staff and oneself. The ideal candidate will possess traits such as patience, good listening skills, perceptiveness, supportiveness, decisiveness, flexibility, analytical thinking, consistency, progressiveness, and a coaching mindset. As this role is customer-service oriented and involves educating customers, excellent people skills and a smooth temperament are essential. The Wine Manager should also be open to growth and expansion within the company.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts in a manner that creates a win-win situation.
  • Ability to analyze a variety of situations, think through to a solution, and implement the solution.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and give clear direction.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close and color vision.
  • Must be able to use a 2-wheeled dolly (hand truck) to carry over 100 pounds at a time.
  • Must safely use a box cutter with razor blades.

  • The Wine Manager manages 1-4 employees in the Wine Department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Bristol Farms policies and all applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include assisting the Director of Wine and Spirits and Store Director with interviewing; hiring; training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize requisitions for wine, liquor, and spirits.
  • Serve wines for public tasting and educational purposes, and in the restaurant or dining room.
  • Keep inventory and order stock to replenish the wine/liquor/spirits selection, focusing on staying in-stock with minimal back stock.
  • Maintain the department to Bristol Farms standards in cleanliness and order.
  • Discuss wines with customers, assist with wine selection, and promote education and proper wine selection.
  • Maintain and build customer relations to encourage return business.
  • Practice, promote, and instill appropriate customer service and work ethic.
  • Routinely replenish inventory on authorized racks, stacks, or shelving.
  • Resolve customer complaints under the direction of the Store Director to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Train, supervise, and direct employees in the Wine Department on an ongoing basis.
  • Merchandise product on the sales floor under the direction of the Director of Wine and Spirits.
  • Accurately process warehoused and direct store deliveries.
  • Maintain price integrity.
  • Maintain the appropriate profit margin according to the approved pre-set budget, including sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes, and waste management.
  • Log invoices daily and weekly and follow established invoice routing procedures.
  • Manage and assure proper displaying and selling of all Liquor products, advising customers on quality, handling, and other factors.
  • Engage and coach others in suggestive selling techniques.
  • Conduct monthly inventory.
  • Implement and maintain all marketing programs, including weekly ads, price changes, and merchandising.
  • Communicate pertinent issues, department conditions, and other Wine and Spirit related issues with the Store Director and Director of Wine and Spirits.
  • Communicate with all Wine Department employees.
  • Use management-provided tools to ensure department success.
  • Enforce company policies.
  • Oversee the entire Wine Department, ensuring excellent customer service and adherence to the “15 Second Service” policy.
  • Conduct accident investigations and complete paperwork according to Cal Osha SB-198.
  • Lead by example, modeling correct behavior and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Follow the owner/partner handbook at all times, especially regarding service standards and appearance.
  • Meet and exceed Bristol Farms standards in service, quality, and cleanliness at all times.
