About The Position

The Wine Consultant at Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) is responsible for overseeing the wine and beer department, ensuring products are displayed according to company standards, and working with vendors to promote product sales through sampling events. This role involves developing customer relationships, educating them on beer and wine products and food pairings, and maintaining a thorough knowledge of all offerings. The consultant will also assist with product ordering, pricing accuracy, and maintaining appealing shelf displays. They will collaborate with category management and vendors to ensure accurate pricing and select products for in-store and patio service. Additionally, the role involves monitoring competitive pricing, promoting sales through suggestive selling, and maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary working environment. A friendly and customer-service-oriented attitude is essential.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of alcohol regulations and guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of beer and wine products.
  • Ability to read and operate bar equipment such as corkscrews, draft beer dispensers, etc.
  • Ability to learn new systems, methods, or processes.
  • Ability to use precision and non-precision hand tools.
  • Ability to work well with fellow partners and promote a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and partners in written and verbal form.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be attentive to potential hazards and remedy or place appropriate warning signs or devices around or near the hazard as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Must report any potential hazards that cannot be immediately remedied to a supervisor.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age required.
  • Partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business in accordance with the BGC Business Driver Policy.
  • High school Diploma or GED and five or more years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • Food Handler certification required.
  • TABC/LACT certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops professional relationships with customers and provides education on beer and wine as well as food pairings.
  • Works with pricing department to ensure accuracy of price tags.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge on all beer, wine, and humidor offerings.
  • Maintains wine selection and provides management with input on requested wines/beers as well as top sellers.
  • Assists with product ordering according to clientele, specific season, promotions, etc.
  • Works with category management personnel to ensure vendor pricing is accurate and reasonable.
  • Uses knowledge of sales and top items to help determine which products would be successful.
  • Maintains appealing shelf displays and appropriate labeling of products according to Company standards.
  • Monitors product inventory and evaluates to ensure assortment and variety in wine and beer offerings.
  • Works with local vendors and distributors to select wine and beer products to be served in-store and on the patio.
  • Partners with various departments to execute all merchandising policies to maximize sales and profits.
  • Works with vendors on coordinating sampling events.
  • Monitors and reports on competitive pricing activities to category management.
  • Promotes product sales through use of suggestive selling initiatives.
  • Maintains clean, safe and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to Company safety procedures.
  • Provides friendly and customer-service-oriented attitude by greeting customers, answering questions, etc.
