About The Position

Peraton is seeking an experienced Windows Systems Administrator (Journeyman) to support our Federal Strategic Cyber Mission program. This role is located in Beltsville, MD, and requires the ability to support core business hours (0800–1700). The administrator will be responsible for administering and supporting Windows Server systems across enterprise environments, including OpenNet, ClassNet, and associated enclaves. This includes performing routine system maintenance, patching, and configuration updates, as well as troubleshooting server, OS, and service-level issues to maintain system availability and performance. A key part of the role involves supporting Active Directory (AD) operations, including authentication issues, directory health, and access control validation, as well as ARS-related activities within connect.sbu environments. The administrator will resolve AD authentication issues, account lockouts, and directory-related challenges, ensuring correct use of key AD attributes for integrations with platforms like Okta and iPost. Patching activities will be executed following DT maintenance windows and compliance requirements, and the administrator will monitor iPost scoring and collaborate with Scanning and System Administration teams to remediate findings. STIG-compliant configurations will be applied, and vulnerability remediation efforts will be supported alongside Cybersecurity teams. System performance will be monitored using SolarWinds and Splunk, with system-level issues identified and resolved. PowerShell scripting will be used for automation, and backup validation and system recovery efforts will be supported in alignment with COOP expectations. Support for virtualized environments (e.g., Nutanix) and integrations/infrastructure updates is also required. Collaboration with supporting teams to troubleshoot dependencies and connectivity issues, and maintaining clear documentation for configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting activities are essential. Continuous development of technical proficiency in Windows systems, AD, and enterprise tools is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or, Master’s degree with minimum of 7 years; or PhD with 4 years. Four (4) additional years of experience can be substituted in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • Must possess, or obtain prior to start date, at least one of the following certifications. Continued certification is required as a condition of employment: CASP+ CE; CCNA Cyber Ops; CCNA-Security; CCNP Security; CEH; CFR; CISA; CISSP (or Associate); Cloud+; CySA+; GCED; GCIA; GCIH; GICSP; SCYBER; VCA DCV; PPDA; Agile IC; SNOW App Dev
  • Experience with enterprise technologies such as Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization platforms (e.g., Nutanix), and monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, SolarWinds).
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • An Active Secret security clearance with eligibility to obtain a final Top Secret security clearance.
  • Ability to support core business hours (0800–1700).

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Windows Server systems across enterprise environments, including OpenNet, ClassNet, and associated enclaves.

  • Troubleshoot server, OS, and service-level issues to maintain system availability and performance.

  • Monitor iPost scoring and collaborate with Scanning and System Administration teams to remediate findings.
  • Apply STIG-compliant configurations and support vulnerability remediation efforts alongside Cybersecurity teams.
  • Monitor system performance using SolarWinds and Splunk; identify and resolve system‑level issues.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to drive automation and reduce manual tasks.
  • Support backup validation and system recovery efforts in alignment with COOP expectations.
