About The Position

Responsible for washing and cleaning interior and exterior windows and door glass in multi‑story buildings. Performs work at various heights using ladders, swing-stage (spider) scaffolding, hydraulic lifts, and related equipment. Safely sets up and operates tools and fall‑protection systems while working in occupied and populated areas, following all safety procedures and regulations. In all aspects of the position, the Window Washer is responsible for incorporating accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into daily work and interactions. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of professional window washing experience, or six (6) months of experience working at heights on building exteriors.
  • Ability to safely work using ladders up to 48 feet and scaffolding.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions, safety information, and work documentation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, coworkers, and building occupants.
  • Ability to safely operate, maintain, and use hand and power tools required for the trade.
  • Experience working in sensitive and occupied environments, such as offices, classrooms, residence halls, and restrooms.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one prior to employment, to operate a state owned vehicle for work related travel.
  • Ability to physically perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily tasks with limited supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of demonstrated experience in professional window washing.
  • Demonstrated experience using swing‑stage (spider) scaffolding equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience operating large hydraulic and man‑lift equipment.
  • Experience working in an institutional and/or commercial environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, standard job safety practices, and proper use of respiratory protection.
  • Willingness to obtain asbestos abatement certification, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Wash and clean interior and exterior windows and door glass across multi‑story buildings.
  • Move, protect, and replace furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed to safely access work areas.
  • Operate man‑lifts, hydraulic (Genie) lifts, and other access equipment to reach assigned workspaces.
  • Use ladders, window jacks, swing‑stage (spider) scaffolding, safety harnesses, tucker poles, extension poles, and related tools and equipment.
  • Remove paint, stains, debris, and buildup from glass surfaces to ensure a clean, streak‑free finish.
  • Perform all work safely and professionally in occupied and populated environments, following established safety procedures.
  • Maintain window‑washing and access equipment in proper working condition.
  • Inspect, clean, and service equipment as needed to ensure safe and effective operation.
  • Report equipment issues and coordinate repairs or replacements according to established procedures.
