About The Position

Deriva Energy, a nationwide leader in sustainable energy, is seeking a Traveling Wind Technician I or II to join their Mobile Field Service team, based in Mt Pleasant Wind. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement, serving as the entry-level and initial training level for the series. The hiring manager may fill the position at the Wind Technician II level based on candidate skills and experience. The role involves maintaining all aspects of customer turbines, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, as part of a traveling team with a 6 weeks on, 1 week off schedule.

Requirements

  • High School/GED.
  • For Wind Technician - Level I: Ability to complete Level I job performance measures and training at the Deriva Energy renewables academy within 1 year.
  • For Wind Technician - Level II (External Candidates): In addition to High School/GED, (3+) years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period.
  • For Wind Technician - Level II (Internal Candidates): In addition to High School/GED, (1+) year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Must pass a background check and drug test prior to hire.
  • Safe Working Weight Requirement: 265 pounds as an essential function of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study.
  • Experience with Vestas V82 and V90 turbines.
  • Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies.
  • High voltage and substation maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools).
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
  • Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems.
  • Microsoft Office including Excel/Word/PowerPoint.
  • CPR and AED Training Certification.
  • TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training.
  • Forklift certified.
  • Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness.
  • Climb heights of 300 ft. and greater several times daily.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines related to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
  • Perform troubleshooting to identify root causes and implement corrective actions or open service cases with equipment manufacturers.
  • Perform energy isolation in accordance with Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures.
  • Perform pad-mounted transformer switching in accordance with Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures.
  • Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and performance monitoring and evaluation.
  • Maintain all aspects (electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines safely, with high quality, and efficiently.
  • Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork) within Maximo.
