About The Position

Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., is seeking a Wind Technician, to be based in their Top of the World Wind Farm location in Glenrock, WY. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement. This role serves as the entry-level training position for the Wind Technician series. The hiring manager may choose to fill this position at the higher Wind Technician II level based on a candidate's skills and experience. The Wind Technician will be responsible for maintaining all aspects of our turbines, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.

Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • Wind Technician - Level I: Ability to complete Level I job performance measures and training Deriva Energy renewables academy within 1 year
  • Wind Technician - Level II (External Candidates): In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (3+) years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period.
  • Wind Technician - Level II (Internal Candidates): In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (1+) year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed.
  • Valid Driver’s License required

  • Must pass a background check and drug test prior to hire
  • Safe Working Weight Requirement- This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study.
  • Experience with GE 1.5 ESS and/or Siemens 2.3 wind turbines.
  • Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies
  • High voltage and substation maintenance experience
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
  • Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems
  • Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint
  • CPR and AED Training Certification
  • TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training
  • Forklift certified
  • Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program.

Responsibilities

  • Always maintain a high level of safety awareness
  • Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
  • Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue and perform corrective actions or open a service case with equipment manufacturer
  • Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
  • Perform pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures
  • Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation
  • Maintaining all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner
  • Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maxim
