About The Position

San Diego Humane Society is hiring a full-time Wildlife Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) for our Project Wildlife Medical team! In this role, you’ll be responsible for providing direct care to wildlife patients including physical exams, initiating first aid, and daily evaluations of in-house patients. You will also support by responding to rehabilitation-related questions from the public. Requirements

  • California Registered Veterinary Technician licensure required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year clinical and/or shelter experience in veterinary environment required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Wildlife Veterinary Manager, Wildlife Services Coordinator, and Wildlife Admissions and Satellite Supervisor regarding the movement of patients throughout the Care Center
  • Work closely with the Wildlife Rehabilitation Veterinarian(s) to determine patient diet and housing
  • Perform diagnostic testing, including but not limited to oral swabs, fecal testing, eye stains, blood draws and smears, etc.
  • Utilize digital x-ray machine, maintain x-ray processor and exposure badges, and obtain radiographs of patients under the direct supervisor of a Wildlife Veterinarian
  • Assist Wildlife Veterinarian(s) and/or Wildlife technicians with exams, procedures, surgeries, necropsies, and other duties as assigned
  • Ensure inventory, stocking, and cleaning schedules are complete – includes ordering and accepting medical supplies and deliveries
  • Be proficient and train others in: husbandry, disease control, handling and exam, administering treatments, surgical monitoring, radiology, etc.
