About The Position

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is seeking an Engagement Program Specialist - District 8 (Conservation Program Coordinator II) for its Wildlife Education Division. This division focuses on increasing public awareness of the agency's mission and programs, engaging individuals through education and opportunities to promote wildlife conservation. The division develops and delivers programs on hunting, fishing, and shooting sports, and other conservation outreach. With educators statewide, a fishing education center, and shooting ranges, staff provide outdoor skills training and educational programs. The division also conducts program planning and evaluation to ensure continued participation in conservation and wildlife-related recreation. The primary role of this position is to facilitate and coordinate education efforts within Wildlife District 8. This involves developing relationships with Wildlife Education Division staff and district staff across the agency to schedule, coordinate, and deploy various educational programs including Hunter Education, Boater Education, Hunting and Fishing Skills Education, Trapper Education, National Archery in the Schools, Conservation and Species-specific programs, and other agency initiatives. The position will also assist with Commission-sponsored hunting and fishing opportunities and events, recruit and train volunteer instructors, assist in developing and implementing educational programs, deploy tools to measure program effectiveness, and assist in supervising and training volunteers and seasonal employees.

Requirements

  • A Valid NC Driver’s License is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in wildlife management, fisheries management, parks and recreation, public administration or business administration from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience related to the area of assignment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of hunting, boating, shooting sports, fishing, and/or conservation.
  • Knowledge of education principles and practices (concepts, materials, programs, teaching methodologies, etc.).
  • Skills to develop, coordinate and facilitate classes, workshops, and events (including large-scale public education and outreach initiatives).
  • Skills to develop and implement procedures, guidelines, standards, evaluation methods and long-term goals for programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, conservation/community partners, and volunteers for collaborations on programming, projects or events.

Responsibilities
