About The Position

H. T. Harvey & Associates is seeking a senior (project manager-level) wildlife ecologist with strong expertise in wildlife species and habitats of the San Francisco Bay Area to join its growing wildlife team. The role involves applying expertise as the lead biologist on projects, developing solutions to environmental challenges, and mentoring staff. Responsibilities include working with clients, project team members, and agency contacts, as well as contributing to proposals and business development. Project work primarily occurs throughout the Bay Area and central California coast, with occasional work in other parts of California. The position offers the opportunity to work physically in the office or remotely.

Requirements

  • Strong local expertise with wildlife species and habitats of the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • At least 4–8 years of applicable professional experience (in addition to a graduate degree).
  • At least 1 year of management experience.
  • Prior experience authoring and editing technical reports, with demonstrated exceptional writing ability.
  • Mastery of key project management skills including personal organization, ability to coordinate multiple projects, critical thinking skills, and team communications.
  • Follow best practices for field safety.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with no major traffic violations or multiple minor violations.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. focusing on local wildlife species and habitats, or equivalent extensive local experience.
  • Experience with CEQA/NEPA documentation and FESA and CESA consultations.

Responsibilities

  • Apply expertise as the lead biologist on projects.
  • Develop solutions to environmental challenges.
  • Manage and mentor wildlife staff.
  • Serve as a liaison with clients, project team members, and agency contacts.
  • Work on proposals and business development efforts.
  • Conduct NEPA/CEQA documentation for various projects.
  • Manage Federal and California Endangered Species Act consultations.
  • Provide compliance support, including pre-activity surveys, permit compliance, and construction monitoring.
  • Assess biological constraints to proposed projects and identify potential mitigation measures.
  • Develop wildlife management and monitoring plans, including success criteria and avoidance/minimization measures.
