About The Position

H. T. Harvey & Associates is seeking a staff-level wildlife ecologist with strong expertise in the wildlife species and habitats of the San Francisco Bay Area to join their growing wildlife team. The role involves both field and office work, conducting surveys and monitoring for special-status wildlife species, performing habitat assessments, and contributing to technical reports. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a team of specialized experts and contribute to a variety of projects, including NEPA/CEQA documentation, Endangered Species Act consultations, compliance support, biological constraint assessments, and the development of mitigation and monitoring plans. The firm is committed to creating ecologically sound solutions to complex natural resource challenges.

Requirements

  • Strong local expertise with wildlife species and habitats of the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • An M.S. or Ph.D. focusing on local wildlife species and habitats or equivalent extensive local experience.
  • 2–6 years of applicable professional experience (in addition to their graduate degree).
  • Prior experience authoring and editing technical reports, with demonstrated exceptional writing ability.
  • A valid driver’s license with no major traffic violations or multiple minor violations.
  • Ability to follow best practices for field safety.
  • Willingness to work nights, occasional weekends, and early morning hours when needed.
  • Willingness to occasionally work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to walk over varied terrain for surveys and work in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveys and monitoring for special-status wildlife species.
  • Conduct habitat assessments.
  • Contribute to technical reports.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to build consulting skills and experience.
  • Participate in NEPA/CEQA documentation.
  • Engage in Federal and California Endangered Species Act consultations.
  • Provide compliance support, including pre-activity surveys and construction monitoring.
  • Assess biological constraints to proposed projects and identify potential mitigation measures.
  • Develop wildlife management and monitoring methods, success criteria, and avoidance and minimization measures in collaboration with restoration ecologists.
