About The Position

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated WIC Nutritionist to join our team. As a WIC Nutritionist, you will be responsible for providing nutritional education and guidance to pregnant, post-partum, and breast-feeding women, infants, and children up to five years old. You will help families in need of government assistance to create properly balanced diets that take cultural modifications into account.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification
  • Knowledge of WIC program policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Minimum of two years of experience in nutritional counseling.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with patients and other members of the care team.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confrontation and conflict.
  • Ability to work independently and to seek consultation as necessary.
  • Ability to follow organization and departmental processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a high stress/fast paced/high work volume environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Experience in working with a diverse population base preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a client intake, determine current diet and compare that against the ideal nutritional requirements for all family members.
  • Assess client needs, deficiencies, and excesses, and make a plan to improve their regimen.
  • Monitor client dietary progress and ensure families are properly utilizing their benefits to meet their nutritional needs.
  • Perform program eligibility and nutritional assessment for individual clients.
  • Provide client services including nutritional counseling, determination of supplemental food packages according to clients’ individual risk factors and promotion of breastfeeding.
  • Provide individual and group education in nutrition, breastfeeding and health issues.
  • Attend special events, including health fairs, to raise public awareness about the program as well as health and nutrition issues.
  • Obtain education materials and develop education and outreach initiatives.
