This position is for a WIC Nutrition Services Assistant on a WNA Trainee Track. Candidates are initially hired as a Nutrition Services Assistant at $19.00 per hour and will be trained to become a WIC Nutrition Assistant within 1 year of employment, at which point the salary starts at $21.50 per hour. The SDSU Research Foundation Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program is the largest WIC agency in San Diego County, with approximately 80 employees serving over 26,000 participants monthly. The WIC program is a safety net initiative aimed at safeguarding the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods, healthy eating information, and referrals to health care for San Diego County residents. Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Registered Dietitian Supervisor, the WIC Nutrition Services Assistant performs various clerical duties supporting WIC program operations, provides customer service to participants and applicants, educates participants on non-nutrition issues like program orientation and food benefit usage, and determines WIC participant eligibility. The role requires travel to other WIC Offices in the San Diego region as needed and includes training to become a certified California WIC Nutrition Assistant (WNA).
