About The Position

Provides basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Expresses enthusiasm for breastfeeding and provides support for a positive breastfeeding experience. Manages an assigned caseload and makes routine contact and follow-up. Documents interactions in an Electronic Medical record. Refers pregnant women and mothers to a lactation specialist as needed. Participates in community events related to breastfeeding. May be required to work evenings and weekends on special occasions to accommodate the women or for special events such as health fairs or disaster-related events. May be assigned to assist in other counties in the district. Maintains HIPAA standards related to Privacy and Security. Provides outstanding customer service. Responds to Public Health Emergencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Past or present WIC participant who was on the program as a breastfeeding mother
  • Has breastfed at least one baby for at least 6 months (Does not have to be currently breastfeeding).
  • Enthusiastic about promoting breastfeeding.
  • Has reliable transportation.
  • Has the ability to lift up to 45 lbs., and the ability to bend and reach up.

Nice To Haves

  • Public Health experience
  • Mentoring or coaching experience
  • Completion of an associate degree or higher in a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Bilingual (Spanish), ability to interpret and translate health care information orally and in writing from English into the specific foreign language (Spanish) and from the specific foreign language (Spanish) into English
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Male applicants between 18 and 26 years of age must present proof of Selective Service Registration.
