About The Position

The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor/Client Agent promotes and educates WIC prenatal and breastfeeding mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding and provides support throughout the breastfeeding journey. This role involves assisting in all aspects of WIC operations, including maintaining client confidentiality, documenting client interactions, and ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. The incumbent is also responsible for attending WIC training sessions to ensure the efficient operation of the program.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED.
• 1 year experience in WIC.
• Must be either breastfeeding or have prior experience as a breastfeeding mom.
• Must be a current or former WIC Participant (Client).
• Advanced computer skills i.e., Micro Soft Office.
• Must have excellent oral, written, and listening communication skills.
• Must possess leadership/team building skills and abilities to work cooperatively with other program personnel and willingness to institute best professional practices.
• Must be enrolled in Santo Domingo Pueblo.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• Fluent in Kewa Keres language.

Responsibilities

• Promote and educate WIC prenatal and breastfeeding moms on benefits of breastfeeding.
• Support breastfeeding throughout the duration after a mom chooses to breastfeed.
• Assist in all aspects of WIC operation.
• Maintain client confidentiality.
• Document/record all contacts with Clients.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all WIC Clients.
• Attend local, regional, and national WIC in-service/training including nutrition education, breastfeeding and other training needed to ensure adequate and efficient operation of the WIC Program.
• Some travel may be required.
• Extended working hours, including weekends, may be required.
• Satisfactorily pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.
• Maintain eligibility for Santo Domingo Pueblo liability insurance.
