About The Position

This is a part-time, hourly position working up to 29 hours per week. Peer Counselor positions are located in the county nearest to the employee's residence and will require travel to other counties. This is not a remote position. Positions will report to work daily in one of the county health departments located in Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding, or Walker. Requirements

  • Experience in breastfeeding at least one baby for a period of at least six months and has been or is currently a WIC participant.
  • Must be within a reasonable commuting distance.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, provides basic patient care and works with patients/clients to develop daily living skills.
  • Counsels and gives breastfeeding information and support to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, including informing them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding.
  • Assists breastfeeding mothers in preventing and handling common breastfeeding concerns.
