About The Position

Lifetime Assistance is seeking a Wheelchair Van Driver to join their transportation department. The mission of Lifetime Assistance is to foster independence, dignity, and respect for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to transform lives. The position is full-time, 30 hours per week, with a split shift from 6:30 am to 9:30 am and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The starting wage is $18.42 per hour.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of professional driving experience, including school bus driving and transporting elderly individuals, children, and people with disabilities.
Valid NYS driver’s license; must meet Lifetime Assistance’s vehicle operator requirements.
Ability to complete agency-provided training and safety certifications.
Strong awareness of safety protocols, effective communication, and a professional, dependable demeanor.
Ability to lift/move up to 35 pounds, assist individuals with mobility needs, and work in varying weather conditions.
Must pass all required background checks and clearances (e.g., SCR, Fingerprinting, SEL, MHL).

Responsibilities

Safely operate agency vehicles on assigned routes while adhering to traffic laws and agency policies.
Conduct and document pre-trip inspections; report any maintenance or safety concerns.
Ensure vehicles are fueled, clean, and properly equipped with safety tools.
Assist individuals with boarding, exiting, and securing mobility devices (e.g., wheelchairs).
Provide a comfortable, respectful, and supportive environment for all passengers.
Maintain accurate records, including attendance, trip logs, and incident reports.
Communicate effectively with program participants, staff, caregivers, and families.
Complete required trainings and certifications; assist with route coverage and ongoing training.
