About The Position

The Wheel Loader plays a critical role in the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction industries by operating heavy machinery to efficiently move large quantities of materials such as soil, rock, and minerals. This position requires precision and safety awareness to ensure that loading and transportation tasks are completed without incident, contributing directly to the productivity and operational success of the site. The operator will work closely with site supervisors and other equipment operators to coordinate material handling and maintain workflow continuity. Additionally, the role involves routine inspection and maintenance of the wheel loader to prevent downtime and extend equipment lifespan. Ultimately, the Wheel Loader ensures that material handling processes are executed smoothly, safely, and in compliance with industry regulations and company standards.

Requirements

• Extensive experience loading haul trucks.
• Experience using an onboard scale to maintain accurate load weights is required.
• Experience loading blasted rock from the pit.
• Valid operator certification or license for heavy machinery, specifically wheel loaders.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in heavy equipment operation.
• Ability to perform basic mechanical inspections and identify potential equipment issues.
• Physical ability to perform job duties in outdoor and potentially harsh environmental conditions.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a granite quarry or other hard rock operation is highly preferred.
• Experience working in mining, quarrying, or oil and gas extraction environments.
• Additional certifications related to heavy equipment operation or safety training (e.g., OSHA certification).
• Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or equipment tracking software.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with supervisors and team members.

Responsibilities

• Operate wheel loader machinery to load, transport, and unload materials in mining and extraction sites.
• Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance checks to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
• Collaborate with site supervisors and team members to plan and execute material handling tasks efficiently.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols and regulatory requirements to minimize risk and maintain a safe working environment.
• Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly to maintenance and supervisory personnel.
• Maintain accurate records of operational activities, including hours of operation and maintenance performed.
• Assist in training new operators on safe and effective wheel loader operation techniques.
