About The Position

Parametrix is seeking an experienced Wetland Scientist to join their team in Seattle, WA. This role will primarily support the Greater Washington region, with potential travel throughout the western United States. The position involves managing and supporting wetland, aquatic, and wildlife resources projects, including leading field investigations, preparing regulatory compliance documentation and permit applications, and technical reporting. The Wetland Scientist will also collaborate with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies, and assist in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities to grow the environmental practice.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience in the Pacific Northwest conducting wetland delineations and biological fieldwork and permitting projects.
• Strong understanding of Pacific Northwest flora, fauna, soils, hydrology, and aquatic ecosystems.
• Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) certification, working towards obtaining Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification.
• Solid knowledge of Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and Washington state/local environmental regulations.
• Excellent technical writing, data analysis, interpersonal communication, and client-service skills.
• Strong wetland field skills, including delineation methodology, data collection, and navigation in challenging field conditions.
• Proficiency with GPS, ARC/GIS, and spatial data management to support field mapping and reporting.
• Ability to travel to project sites, work independently, and complete fieldwork that may include heavy manual labor.

Nice To Haves

• WSDOT Biological Assessment Author certification.
• Completion of wetland certificate training from University of Washington, Portland State University, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide project and task management and technical oversight for wetland delineations, stream ordinary high-water mark determinations, and wildlife surveys.
• Lead and manage field surveys and technical assessments for wetlands, streams, wildlife, and threatened or endangered species.
• Perform QA/QC on data collection, field surveys, critical area reports, and biological assessments.
• Prepare permit applications and regulatory documentation for Clean Water Act Section 404, Endangered Species Act Section 7, and state/local natural resource and critical areas regulations.
• Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
• Assist with business development by identifying potential clients and project pursuits.
• Lead and participate in fieldwork, which may involve navigating rough terrain, digging soil pits, and working in all weather conditions.
• Travel as needed for fieldwork and project assignments throughout the western U.S.
