About The Position

Copperhead Environmental Consulting, Inc. is hiring a full-time, exempt, salaried Wetland Scientist II. This position is an in-office position located in Paint Lick, Kentucky or hybrid in Asheville, NC. This position will be dedicated to a specific long-term client project with opportunity to work on other projects in the interim and thereafter. The position is responsible for collecting data, conducting research, performing routine equipment maintenance/testing, and entering data where appropriate. This position will also be expected to learn project management skills and may be given tasks accordingly. Travel is required. This is not a remote position. Individual must be able to pass a background check and possess a valid driver's license in good standing. Post employment fit for duty drug testing may be required based on client contract requirements.

Requirements

  • 4+ years, 2-5 years of progressive experience in wetland delineation
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of applicable and relevant local, state, and federal regulations including the Clean Water Act (Section 404/401), Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act
  • Completion of a wetland delineation course in line with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Regulatory Program or Wetland Delineator/Delineation Certificate from an accredited organization
  • Experience conducting field surveys for federal or state listed species
  • Certification as a Wetland Professional In-Training (WPIT) by the Society of Wetlands Scientists. Candidates with a QHP or QHP-IT certification in Tennessee will be given top consideration
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, biology, ecology, botany, or related field.

  • Moderate understanding of scientific principles and understanding of various implementation techniques as related to area of focus.
  • Assist in the preparation of Section 404/401 and associated permit applications.
  • Understanding of a Project's goal(s) and deliverable requirements outlined in the SOW. Ability to contribute to drafting deliverables and provide feedback to PM or other Team members with regards to quality of the report and provide recommendation as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts, both verbally and in written form.
  • Understands the scope of work and identifies when/if activities are out of scope, communicating with supervisor accordingly.
  • Connect with relevant networks to build a network of professional connections. Participate in presentations, attend trade shows, and professional conferences where applicable.
  • Basic understanding of business development practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field work and reporting associated with wetland and stream delineations and botanical and hydrologic surveys
  • Collect data and perform data analysis.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance and care of field data, specimens, and samples.
  • Organize and lead field work. Lead, direct, and assist routine equipment maintenance and pack equipment to and from the site.
  • Ensure the team is following company and safety standards in the field.
  • Makes valuable contributions to the team, coordinate team members where appropriate.
  • Understands processes and technologies used and suggests improvements as needed or relevant. Critical thinking of our data and scientific processes.
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
  • Monitors project deadlines as it relates to deliverables within team’s responsibilities.
  • Complete work products and procedures in time allotted.
  • Prepare status updates on assigned tasks. Communicate with team members.
  • Provide technical support for proposal development.
  • Onsite supervision of team.
  • Trains newly hired staff and assists with the development of staff through day to day interactions and informal mentorship.
  • Interact professionally both internally and externally. Communicate with clients as designated by the PM and assist with coordinating schedules with client.
