About The Position

WSP is seeking a Wetland Delineator/Environmental Scientist to join their team. This role will involve assisting with the planning and execution of wetland delineations and stream assessments, primarily for linear and renewable energy projects in the Midwest. The position offers the opportunity to act as a wetland field team lead, adhering to USACE standards, and potentially supporting other natural resource surveys. Responsibilities include data collection using GPS, mapping, preparing field equipment and safety plans, data entry and analysis, report compilation, and coordinating with governmental agencies. The role also involves assisting with and leading the preparation of wetland delineation reports and environmental permit applications. Field projects may be physically demanding and require long hours in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience conducting wetland delineations and stream assessments, preferably in Ohio and surrounding states.
  • Bachelors of Arts or Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology or related field.
  • Familiarity with USACE wetland data forms, ORAM wetland data forms, and QHEI and HHEI stream data forms.
  • Experience with GPS field data collection.
  • Plant identification of Midwest vegetation.
  • Willingness to learn and implement various field methods for collection of data.
  • Proficient with data management, organization and MS Office Suite.
  • Attention and commitment to timely completion of high-quality work, often independently motivated.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet fast-paced demands.
  • Willing to work long hours in the field for possibly two weeks out of the month or more during peak periods of fieldwork.
  • High level of motivation and an ability to work as a team lead or independently as part of various teams.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a team lead for a wetland delineation crew and/or familiar with the typical responsibilities of the field lead role.
  • Experience with use of ArcGIS, ArcOnline, ArcCollector and ArcGIS Enterprise, Trimble GPS units and Terrasync software.
  • Strong technical writing skills, clear communicator, ability to work as part of multidisciplinary teams, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of USACE 401/404 permitting, Section 10 permitting and mitigation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and execution of wetland delineations and stream assessments for linear and renewable energy projects in the Midwest.
  • Perform duties as a wetland field team lead in accordance with current USACE 1987 Manual and Regional Supplements.
  • Operate a GPS unit to collect field data, map habitat types and sensitive resources.
  • Support preparation of field equipment, mapping, Safe Work Plans, and logistics for field work.
  • Perform data entry, data analysis and report compilation.
  • Assist with various governmental agency coordination (USFWS, USACE, EPA, etc.).
  • Assist and lead preparation of wetland delineation reports, and permit applications for federal and/or state environmental permits, including USACE Section 404 and Section 10, state wetland and stream permits, NPDES, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service coordination, and state natural heritage agency coordination.
